To be well prepared for the Patrouille des Glaciers 2020 we will host a four day training stage with mountain guide Bertrand Lovey from Zermatt to Verbier.
We will meet in Verbier or Zermatt depending on the availabilities of the participants. Our organisation will leave from Le Châble with the train in the afternoon, but you can check in at the hotel at any time you want and perhaps even have a little training session to acclimatise. In the evening we will have a pasta dinner to load the carbs for the next day, the start of our discovery tour.
Day 2 will be an early start to give you the real Patrouille feeling. Bertrand will take us on a tour towards the Bertol mountain hut and during the day we will work on the improvement of our skinning technique and skiing in pairs with ropes.
Day 3 will go along the famous Col de Riedmatten and Pas du Chat. We’ll stay overnight at Cabane de Dix, before heading back to Verbier on day 4 by passing the Rosablanche and Col de la Chaux. We will celebrate the end of our tour with a team fondue at Cabane Mont Fort.
The Patrouille des Glaciers (PDG) is an international ski mountaineering race organised by the Swiss Armed Forces in which military and civilian teams compete, taking place once every two years (next edition 2020).
The race routes leading from Zermatt to Verbier (course Z) or from Arolla to Verbier (course A) must be completed in one single stage.
This unique competition is characterised by its length, the challenges of the alpine environment, the altitude and the course profile.
